Solved Issues connecting to a running server. CentOS

I have done all the steps and the server is now listening on 0.0.0.0:9987 and I have checked with the status switch and it says the server is running, which I have also verified with ps -e

The problem is I cannot connect to the server. The VPS provider has assured me I have been whitelisted for UDP access yet the port looks closed for some reason when I use a scanning site to check. Have I done something wrong?

Do you have a firewall installed?

I have not installed any, nor even know how. They have assured me there should be nothing blocking the port.

I wonder, why your server does not work. you have started so many threads about server quetions and suggestions.
So I guess this server worked before?

I have a hosted server, I am now experimenting however with setting up one on my VPS from scratch. I can telnet to the file transfer and query ports but I cannot connect to the server with my client.

Are you sure that the server is running and not crashed directly after the start?
You said it is running, but what does the log say?

Example for a crash on Cent OS
    Code:
2012-07-24 01:47:38.110096|WARNING |Accounting | | Unable to find valid license key, falling back to limited functionality
    2012-07-24 01:47:38.111694|ERROR |Accounting | | failed to register local accounting service
2012-07-24 01:47:38.111752|ERROR |ServerLibPriv | | Server() error while starting servermanager, error: instance check error
Please check your server logs first.
Does your vps has more then 1 IP?

I was having that issue but I found some article that got it working. The logs now say its listening on all 3 ports successfully.

    No firewall is no good
    But also check
    Code:
    PORT=9987; netstat -a | grep $PORT
and see if the server is really listening on the respective udp port.

You can additionally check if you can establish a telnet connection to serverquery.
