    Program Freezes When Using Headset as a Playback Device

    So I just transferred to my new PC, and I'm having a real interesting issue.

    I have a Microsoft Headset that I used on my old machine, and I was able to configure applications to put sound into the headphones in the headset, while playing music over speakers. For example, wanting to use the headset as the input/output device for TeamSpeak3 will cause TS3 to freeze, until the headset is removed. It works fine when the headset is input device only, and output is speakers.

    Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77
    Headset: Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows (Pairs on BT to USB) Driver is "Generic USB Audio")

    In my device manager I've disabled all audio devices except the Realtek HD Audio from the MB and the Headset. I've also tried re-installing the drivers from scratch multiple times, still have the same problem.
    I've done some googling, but I can't seem to find an answer for the issue. I'm throwing this up here in case someone else has had a similar issue.

    Here's the log;

    Please mak sure the latest driver is installed for your controller.
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads > Gaming > Now select your controller type and install driver version 1.2

    Hey Dante,

    The version I'm using is actually the Lifechat XZ-6000, so it's already configured for PC use, and it worked fine on other computers.

    I downloaded and installed the drivers you linked to, but I am having the same symptoms. Here is a fresh log;

    It looks like the connection to this headset is disturbed. Does it have something like an energy saving mode? I do not own that headset and can not test it out.

    No, there is no energy saving mode. There is a setting on the mic to turn off when on battery power, but it's disabled by default.

    Can you try something else for us?

    - Deactivate all custom plugins, before and connect to a server
    - Try another playback and capture mode under settings > options > Playback / Capture and set it to direct sound.
    - Just connect to one server and wait until it appears, then send us the log. So that there is 100% no new connection made.

    I had already tried all those steps, and the when I set the playback and capture mode to speakers/headset mic there was no problems. It was only when I tried to use the USB headset as an output device in tandem (or by themselves for that matter) that I had the freezing issue.

    In my troubleshooting, I've confirmed that it's not a TS3 issue. Even the test tone under the sound device manager would freeze up until the headset was disconnected. I also noticed that the mixer panel would freeze up when adjusting volume of the headset. Along with doing a USB trace, I narrowed the issue down to a corrupted Windows 7 Audio Stack. Apparently it was so bad that the repair install would fail. I'm doing a clean install today (didn't have time earlier in the week), but this should solve the issue.

    Thanks for the assistance, even though it wasn't your software's fault!
