    Server Group Settings/Permissions Question

    Hey guys,
I've been around for awhile, but I can't figure this one out! I'd appreciate any help I can get on this one! I did some searching, but maybe I am not searching the right thing...so here it goes.

New members to our TS3 are added to the guest group and stuck in a channel until they read the description. I have it set so that they can change their own server group to the next server group, gaining permissions to move channels. What I had not noticed is they can add ANYONE to the the next group, not just themselves. I would like to set it up so that:

Guest can set themselves to "Specialist" or "Recruit" (and no one else)

Here are the screenshots of our set up and the last is a shot of the guest level being able to set the server admin to the lowest server group (I have it taken care of that they can not remove groups)

    Server Admin Level:

Issue that a guest can set anyone to either group:

Thank you again for any help you can provide!

Have you tried manipulating the channelgroup settings to get the desired outcome? So far all roads I've come up with lead to the current outcome. I don't have access to a server to do tests but I will take a look when I get home.

Me dont think this is possible.
If you have permission to add users to a group you can add any user to this group.

    Possible Solution/Workaround:
It appears that your "Recruit" Group is temporary, so make this the only group guests can set.
If an user disconnects he loses this group.

Another way would be tampering with "i_client_needed_permission_modify_power" to prevent setting users in groups.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try to hook up with poison this weekend to play around with it.

But, question. I thought it was possible that you could set it so that if you were of a certain group, no one could do stuff to you. Is that the modify permission you reference above? And, if it is, would that have to be done to each person in that group?

    Thank you again!

If you can assign a group you can assign it to everyone. Playing around with the needed_permission_modify_power might lead to some results but you'd have to set it for each client, and then you can just have it set so that you cannot assign groups at all and have an admin assign you the group.
Or just create a simple bot script which gives the group out when the users sends the bot a certain text, and have the text at the end of your rules or existing channel description

Thank you for the input! A simple bot script huh Might be easy for some, I would need to know where to start

    BUT....I like the bot idea!
