Using 1 channel for file browser

    Hello,

    I have a question.
I have a channel named: "File Browser". I want that people only can upload files to this channel, and not to others.
    But how?

I only want to work with the permissions from the channel named "File Browser" and with the Server Groups. (I mean with that, I don't want to block the file browser on every channel expect channel named "File Browser")

I already did it once if I can remember it good, but only don't know anymore how.

    Who can help me?

PS: Sorry if my English was not that good :P

    Hello,

    Same problem here.

I'll explain better what I did:

Like Mascha said, the need is to have only one single channel where users can up/download files.
One solution could be to set in every other channel the "i_ft_needed_file_browse_power" to an higher level than the "i_ft_file_browse_power" that users have. Maybe that in a server with a lot of channels it is boring, but is not a so big problem.
The problem comes when someone creates a new channel: the channel will have the basic permissions, (the "i_ft_needed_file_browse_power" will be 0) so everyone will be allowed to up/download files.

So, we need a solution to not let users open the file browser in any other channel than one, without having to edit any single channel permission.

    Many thanks in advance

Assign the following permissions to clients:

    • i_ft_file_upload_power = -20
    • i_ft_file_download_power = -20
    • i_ft_file_browse_power = -20

Assign the following permissions to the channel you want to allow up / download in:
    • i_ft_needed_file_upload_power = -20
    • i_ft_needed_file_download_power = -20
    • i_ft_needed_file_browse_power = -20

Since all newly created channels will have 0 for those permissions and 0 is higher than -20, clients won't be allowed to do it.
This way you only need to edit that one channel where you want to allow it.

    Thank you for ur reply.

I have tried this already, and now tried it again, but it doesn't work. So this is not solved yet.

If your users are in multiple server groups you have to "negate" the value Master Chris mentioned.
Thus, the lowest value for this permission will be taken instead of the highest.

I have only 1 Server Group on my client and tried it without and with negating. The following error appears:

    Code:
insufficient client permissions (failed on i_ft_needed_file_browse_power)
I skipped Channel Groups in every Server Group because I don't use them.
Also I setted every setting like Chris told me to do, but it still doesn't work.

That's because you are skipping channel permissions, which makes the needed_browser_power to be 0. As such the -20 browse_power you have from your group is lower than what is required, hence you are not allowed to.

    Hello,

    I can confirm too!

It is functioning as expected (simply I didn't know that is possible to set the permissions to a negative value! )

    Thank you!
